Note
  • Collotype reproductions from the original drawings done by Chinese artist working for John Reeves at Canton, China in the early 1800s. Reeves was a tea inspector for the East India Company who took much interest in Chinese culture and natural history
  • The reproduction of the Reeves drawings was done by the collotype process which is explained on p. 209. Most high quality reproduction is done by letterrpress or lithography which require screening. For the detail and delicate colors of the originals, a continuous tone process was needed, and collotype was the choice
  • "Limited edition of 400 copies ... this copy is number 273."--Label on p. [2] of cover [DPL copy]
  • The book is bound in goatskin and buckram
