Summary
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Jackson families who descend from John and Elizabeth Cummins Jackson and their eight children, George, Edward, John Jr., Sophia, Elizabeth, Samuel, Mary Sarah, and Henry. John Jackson Sr. (1717-1801) came from Ireland in 1748, and settled in Cecil County, Maryland. In 1755, he married Elizabeth Cummins (1720-1825). They moved to Virginia, and later settled in Clarksburg, West Virginia, where John and Elizabeth are buried. General Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson is a great-grandson of John and Elizabeth Cummins Jackson. Other Jacksons also came to America from England and Ireland in the 1600-1700s. Some settled in Kentucky, Maryland, New York, Virginia, and West Virginia. During the 1800s, some moved to California, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, and Washington. Later descendants also lived in British Columbia (Canada), Germany, and in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and elsewhere. Some have Shawnee, or other American Indian bloodlines. Some adoptions are noted. Information is also given about their slaves and servants. Information on births, marriages, deaths, accomplishments, and other special events is taken from family Bibles, cemetery inscriptions, family histories, land records, marriage records, member submissions, obituaries, reunion reports, wills, and other sources. Transcriptions and digital images of many of these records are found on their Web site
