Summary
Typical life in "the hood" had devastating effects on Darrin Robinson and his family: all four of his brothers experienced life in juvenile, jail, and prison systems, with sentences ranging from seven to forty years; his mother died while trying to right the abuse and neglect she inflicted upon her teenage sons. Robinson was able to navigate these murky waters, never experiencing incarceration, graduating high school with honors, receiving a bachelor's degree from UT Arlington, and becoming a Child Protective Services Investigator and Texas Juvenile Justice Department Case Manager in order to help others through circumstances similar to his. Here, Robinson provides teens with advice on how to live in at-risk environments and become leaders, while avoiding death, incarceration, and the negative distractions of life. --, Adapted from publisher description
