Note
After World War Ii, plans were announced for the creation of Plimoth Plantation, an outdoor museum to tell the story of the Pilgrim settlers. In 1945 Ralph Hornblower, a summer resident of Plymouth suggested the project to recreate the small original village before outside land was distributed. The First house was completed in 1949. Mr. Hornblower's mother gave a bequest of 50 acres three miles from Plymouth Center which gave a magnificent setting, much like the original in Plymouth. Plans were announced for the Mayflower II in 1954. It sailed across the Atlantic and arrived in 1957. The Howland house was finished in 1958 and more followed in 1959 the first full year for the museum.
