The life of a child born on the border is not easy, but Güero knows how to cope: writing poems. Güero is twelve years old and he is Mexican and American at the same time. He knows how to feel at home on both sides of the river, and there is both Spanish and English in his life. Güero has started his seventh year at school, and his English teacher makes even the poems sound cool. Güero is what they call boys like him: pale.
