Summary
The Last Mermaid, winner of the Boolino 2018 award is a fascinating story about friendship, the sea's magic, and how a summer can change in our lives. ? Clara is an eleven-year-old girl whose frantic life between her elite school, multiple after-school activities, and packed weekends are cut short due to a serious family crisis. When summer comes, Clara is forced to give up the camp that her friends go to, and spend the whole summer with her great-uncles, whom she barely knows, on a small Mediterranean island where nothing ever happens. ? Little by little, Clara realizes that neither her uncles nor the island where they live are as peaceful and as friendly as they seem. What strange illness is making her aunt Esmeralda, a beautiful woman in a wheelchair, weaken and fade away more and more each day? Why does uncle Juan appear increasingly hostile to Clara? Where do the songs that she hears every night come from? . . . And, who is the mysterious young woman who swims at dawn on the beach?
