Vachel Lindsay (1879-1931) was an American poet from Springfield, Illinois, and is considered a founder of singing poetry in which verses are sung or chanted. He visited Baylor a number of times. A. Joseph Armstrong (1873-1954) was a Baylor University, Waco, Texas, English professor and head of the English Department for more than forty years. He selected these letters "which give the inside view of the man, showing his excessive generousity, his ovrwelming kindness, his likes and dislikes, his loyalty to friends, his conceptions of poetry and poets, his eagerness to serve, his objective in his tours, his plans for the future"--from the Foreword
