Summary
Since 1990, Teach For America has been building a movement to end educational inequity. Now its founder, Wendy Kopp, shares the lessons learned from the experiences of 25,000 teachers and alumni who have taught in low-income communities during those years--lessons that inspire great optimism. Kopp introduces leaders who, driven by passionate belief in their students' potential, have set out to accomplish what most think impossible at the classroom, school, and system levels. Their examples show that it is possible to provide children facing all the challenges of poverty with an excellent education, and that there is nothing magical about what it takes. What's required are the same ingredients that account for success in any sector: visionary leaders who can attract and develop talented staff, build strong cultures, and continuously improve, and who are willing to do whatever is necessary
