Caption titleThis was a promotional document to encourage German emigration to Texas in 1846 by the Verein zum Schutze Deutscher Einwanderer in Texas, the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas. Officially named the Verein zum Schutze Deutscher Einwanderer in Texas (Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas), it was also known as Adelsverein (Society of Noblemen), as the Mainzer Verein, the Texas-Verein, and the German Emigration Company. It was provisionally organized on April 20, 1842 by German noblemen at Biebrich on the Rhine, near Mainz, and was a significant effort at organized mass emigration to Texas. The document, in German, has the first portion signed in type at Wiesbaden, 7 February 1846 by C. Karl, Prince at Leininger (Prince Carl Emich III of Leininger, president of the company), and Karl, count at Castell (Count Carl of Castell-Castell, business manager) in name of the committee. The end of the document is signed in type at Mainz, 25 February 1846 by the Central Committee of the Verein. The document apprises the prospective emigrants of what awaits in Texas including danger and hardship, gives brief description of the Verein's lands in Texas and what sevices will be provided, and gives suggestions as to what the emigrants should take with themThe sheet is 35 x 44 cm. when not folded, folded into [4] p., text is on the first three pages, final page is blank
