The architect's role in constructing a skyscraper is exemplified by the planning and prepartion which went into the design of the First National Bank in Dallas, built by George Dahl and Thomas Stanly. Shows the development from the first flat elevation designs through consruction of a scale model, the financial problems encountered, site clearance, and the start of construction. The Dallas artist is shown at work in his home, in a camera study by the late photographer Edward DeisGoals for Dallas (15 minutes color 1966) Tecfilms. Mayor Erk Jonsson explains the development of the Goals For Dallas project, pointing to the many needs of a rapidly growing city as he guides the viewer on a tour of the area. The first Goals conference at Salado, Texas, is shown and the way in which recommendations were formulated is explained. Citizens are urged, at neighborhood meetings, to consider these recommendations and to support efforts to bring to Dallas improved conditions in the many facets of urban living.The circus horse -- A ballet. (15minutes color 1973) Creative Child Productions. A short ballet taken from the longer work, Idylle, choreographed by George Skibine and danced by members of the Dallas Civic Ballet. Tells the story of the rivalry of a country and a city horse for the affections of a beautiful white filly. Narrated by Laurel Ornish.To shape a city. (17 minutes color 1968?) Goals for Dallas. Bigness for a city, what is to be done with it? Does the get overwhelmed by problems or does it shape tomorrow. Goals for Dallas was a project conceived of by Mayor J. Erik Jonsson to deal adequately with the future by long range planning which included the involvement of the citizens. The film discusses how Goals for Dallas is to shape the city. It mentions 12 task forces designed to deal with various topics and numerous neighborhood meetings scheduled for early 1969. These meetings are described to show how citizens could participate with their ideas and involvement.The time is now. (13 minutes color 1968) Goals for Dallas. The city has problems but it can still be what we want it to be. The time to act is now. Compares other large cities, N.Y. and L.A. being overwhelmed with big city problems, pollution and decay, and cities like Philadelphia which had responded by renewing areas. Discusses the Goals for Dallas, with over 100 proposed goals and how the process works and describes in some detail haow the neighborhood meetings will operate. Erik Jonsson's comments stress the need to have in mind all parts of the city and all of its citizensTown Lake Project (6 minutes color and b/w 1971?) KERA-TV. Channel 13 Newsroom reporter Patsy Swank traces the history of the Town Lake Project, as proposed by the Dallas chapter of the American Institute of Architects, from 1965 until it became a specified Goal for Dallas in 1970, including a feasibility study done by Texas A&M University. She then introduces a film by Don Friedkin, narrated by herself, showing the importance of waterways to cities such as Venice, Moscow, London and Washington, D.C., where people boat, swim, fish, live and shop on or near the water. These scenes are contrasted with similar activities in drawings of the proposed Town Lake ProjectThe Kingfisher story (7minutes color 1976?) Vought Associates. The War War II seaplane, The Kingfisher, that crashed into the Pacific Ocean, is being rescued and restored by some of the Ling-Temco-Vought retired employees who originally built the plane. As a museum piece, the plane will be on permanent display on the USS Carolina.
