- Roy Kelton Orbison (1936-1988) was an American singer, songwriter and musician. He was born in Vernon, Texas. The family moved to Fort Worth, Tex,. in 1942 to find work in the airplane factories. Roy attended the Denver Avenue Elementary School. They returned to Vernon after a polio scare. In 1946 they moved to Wink, Tex. (from wikipedia). Roy Orbison emerged as an artist alongside his Sun Records contemporaries in the early days of rock 'n' roll. The book chronicles Orbison's life from his rockabilly days with the Wink Westerners when he was thirteen, through his 1960s heyday to the late 1980s with supergroup the Traveling Wilburys (included Orbison, George Harrison, Tom Petty Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan). It includes interviews with people who knew and covers his personal life as well as business (from jacket)
