Summary
Jewish immigrant Sam Krichinsky (based on Barry Levinson's grandfather) arrives in idyllic Avalon (a suburb of Baltimore) to join his four brothers who had come to America earlier. Levinson's semi-autobiographical film follows several generations of the Krichinskys-- a tight-knit group who work, raise their families, celebrate holidays-- and bicker together. Sam's son, Jules (Aidan Quinn), and his grandson Michael (Elijah Wood, in his first major role) become the focus of much of the story
