Summary
After an car accident in which the rest of their family is killed, sisters Aneta (8) and Memé (17) are orphaned and sent to live with two aunts in Uruguay. Memé, whose leg was badly injured in the crash, eventually takes her little sister and runs away to Buenos Aires, where they meet a friend of their late mother and Memé works in a bar and looks after Aneta. The story follows the sisters' lives over the next decade, as Aneta grows up and Memé becomes ill
