Summary
"In this dark political allegory about the period of La Violencia in Colombia, real historical events (military trucks transporting dynamite explode in Cali in August of 1956, killing thousands and destroying much of the city) form the symbolic backdrop as a wealthy family fights over the will of a just-deceased matriarch and the family's teenage daughter seduces her brother. In the course of their incestuous relationship, the lovers are possessed by the ghosts of their ancestors and are transformed into murderous, blood-sucking creatures who terrorize the countryside (suggestive of political partisans swept up in the Colombian "violencia"). -- World Cat
